Hey, I’m Jason and I love learning more about the Bible. I also have a great wife and two toddlers and a full-time job, and I don’t exactly have a lot of meditation time. (Podcasts are a blessing, though!)

I want to be proud of knowing my Bible inside and out. But at the same time, I don’t know how to do that. If I sit down in front of a Bible, I can’t stop my head from spinning long enough to digest anything. Another problem is that I get totally lost in names of people and cities and who is good and who is bad in a story. (Spoiler alert – it’s not always clear, anyway.)

I think I am not the only one.

The point of this blog is to break down stories and concepts in the Bible into small (I hope) chunks – one per day of the year – to help you and me get a better grasp of what we are trying to read.

I think of this as a liberal arts education in the Bible. It’s “Intro to Everything.” A little history, a little philosophy, a little poetry and a lot of stories. Why? Because that’s the Bible. Most of the 1,189 chapters are not inspirational bookmarks.

The list of 364 lessons is my own creation. I started with over 450 titles. Most of the cut (about 80) came from doctrines and stories. And mostly from the New Testament. Why the surplus in those areas? Probably because I am most familiar with those things. And that’s the problem. I just don’t know my Old Testament as well as I should.

They read from the book, from the Law of God, clearly, and they gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.

Nehemiah 8:8, ESV

I love this passage, because it shows that it is totally acceptable that people would need help understanding the Scriptures. So let’s do this.
